About Kirsty

I am an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and Occupational Therapist with over 30 years experience in the field of psychiatry. I have worked in the NHS, Private sector and in Occupational Health Departments. During my career, I have worked with multidisciplinary teams in hospital and community settings, treating adults with a wide range of acute and complex mental health problems. I joined The Priory Healthcare Group in 1994 and worked at The Roehampton Priory for 8 years, which included roles as The Day Hospital Manager and The Therapy Services Manager. I moved to Hampshire in 2002 and worked at The Marchwood Priory, Southampton for 5 years.

I became involved in the field of Occupational Health in 2000 and worked as an external therapist for Unilever for 15 years and worked with other large Corporations to help them address psycho/social problems in the workplace both on an individual and team basis. I have run a number of Stress Management workshops for Unilever, BskyB, and other smaller organisations.

I have been working in private practice since 1999 initially alongside my roles at The Priory Hospitals and now independently. I currently work in Stockbridge and Salisbury.

How I work

I have experience in treating both emotional and physical problems, including:

Mood Difficulties: depression, bi polar and emotional instability

Anxiety Disorders: panic, phobias, generalised anxiety disorder, OCD, health and social anxiety

Chronic Pain
Chronic Fatigue
Long term illnesses

Coping with Adjustments: loss, life events, divorce, changes to job, home and family

Low Self Esteem
Eating Problems

I mainly work within a framework of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy but will draw on my training and experiences in EMDR, Mindfulness and Compassion Focused Therapy to integrate these approaches if they are helpful to the individual.

I offer therapy in a warm, non-judgemental and empowering manner aimed at promoting recovery collaboratively. I help people to build on their current strengths and resources and/or teach them new skills and techniques to find ways to manage and re build their lives.

Our initial meeting will be an assessment, which may take 1-2 sessions. Together we will gain a joint understanding of your problem to find the best way forward.

There is no time limit on how long we meet for; this will vary from person to person. This is your time and my goal is to help you to reach a point where you become your own therapist.

Professional Bodies

I am registered with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP) and the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC). As an accredited therapist I am bound by their code of ethics. I receive monthly supervision and attend regular training courses to maintain my professional development.
